Awarded under the federal aid program, Academic Competitiveness Grants are available to first or second year undergraduate students who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), are Pell Grant eligible and meet specific eligibility requirements  
SMART-- The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant FAFSA Up to $4000 for third and fourth year Awarded under the federal aid program, SMART Grant are available to third and fourth year undergraduate students who have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), are Pell Grant Eligible, are majoring in Computer Science and Technology, Information Science and Systems, Biology, Mathematics,   Physical Science, Chemistry, Geology  and meet specific eligibility requirements  
Federal Teach Grant FAFSA Up to $4,000 per year The Federal Teach Grant program is a federal grant program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students (regardless of income or need) who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low income families in a high need teaching field.  Failure to complete the required teaching service requirements or an eligible program/major/concentration cause the grant to become a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.   The obligation must be completed within eight years of completing your program.  Review the service agreement for details.  For all requirements, click on the Federal Teach Grant to the left.  
CSAP* - College Scholarship Assistance Program

Commonwelath Award* -

VGAP* - Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program

$500 - 7,300 *Virginia Domicile required. Awards are based on exceptional need and merit. Student must graduate from a Virginia high school with at least a 2.5 gpa.  Students must be full-time (12 hours @ semester). February 1, 2010 (Priority filing date) for the 2010-2011 academic year.**
Virginia Transfer Grant FAFSA & Additional Criteria $1,000-$2,000 *Must demonstrate financial need. Virginia domicile required.  In addition, must have entered a public two-year college as of the Fall 2007 as a first-time freshman, be enrolled full-time into a Virginia four-year public or private nonprofit college or university by the fall following completion of the associate degree.  See details by clicking on Virginia Transfer Grant  
Highlander Grant*

$600 - 4,000 This is an institutionally funded grant program.  It was funded for the first time in 2004-05 to help needy students with the increase in educational costs.  This grant is based on need and date of application. February 1, 2010 (Priority filing date) for the 2010-2011 academic year.**
HETAP - Higher Education Teacher's Assistance Program

The maximum annual award is $2,000.
This program was established in July 2000 by SCHEV to help address the teacher shortage in Virginia by assisting undergraduates enrolled in a K-12 teacher preparation program with preference given to those enrolled in a teacher shortage area. Virginia resident students are selected via faculty nomination and must be
enrolled full-time and demonstrate financial need.

Mary Marshall Nursing Scholarship

Scholarship recipients must agree to engage in full-time nursing practice in Virginia for one month for every $100 received.  Must be a Virginia resident.  Check with the Virginia Dept. of Health

Open to high school seniors or individuals who plan to enroll or are enrolled in full or half time undergraduate at an accredit two or four-year college. Students must be enrolled through Feb 1 of the upcoming academic year.  Applicants must have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less and be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.  Applicants must not  currently be in default on any student loans. FWS* - Federal Work Study Program

$2,610 *Students may work up to 12 hours per week on campus and earn minimum wage.. Must demonstrate financial need. February 1, 2010 (Priority filing date) for the 2010-2011 academic year.**
*All financial aid recipients must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or in another approved status for receipt of Title IV funds. In addition, students must be at least 1/2 time students, in a degree-granting program, and maintaining satisfactory academic progress.

**Because funds in these programs are limited, students applying by February 1 before the academic year in which they will be entering will receive priority consideration for these funds.  Applications must be finalized by April 1 for priority consideration.

Students who are not eligible for need based aid or who need additional funding options to pay educational costs to attend RU should review other educational resources.
