Applying for Financial Aid

For the 2010-2011 academic year, Radford University will be using again the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA as the primary document to determine aid eligibility.  Students may file the FAFSA after January 2, 2010.  Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov   All the forms and actions below can be done at this website.

 

BEFORE BEGINNING THE FAFSA

• Register for a PIN number.  Student and parents can use this as an electronic signatures. 
   

• Gather all documents such as federal tax returns, asset information and any other information in preparation for filing through the web. 
   

• Complete the FASFA on the web Pre-application worksheet.

  FILLING OUT THE FAFSA

• Use the Student and Parent’s PIN number as an Electronic signature.  If you or your parent’s do not have a PIN number, you must print, sign, and mail a signature page. 
   

• Using the FASFA Pre-Application Worksheet enter all your information online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
   

• You can save your application at anytime and finish it at a later date.
   

• Be sure to get the confirmation number when you complete your FAFSA on the Web.  This is your confirmation that your FAFSA has been received

FAFSA FOLLOW-UP

• Check the status of your submitted FAFSA on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  
   

• Print your Student Aid Report (SAR).
   

• Make corrections to your FASFA (whether you filed on the web or by paper).

Confirm that the RU Financial Aid Office has received your FAFSA and if any documents are needed using the Student Information System.
