Nondegree Admission
Students who are not admitted into a degree
program are not eligible for financial assistance. Students who have
been admitted as nondegree seeking students may be eligible for Stafford
Loan under limited circumstances:
- If the student is enrolled in a
required teacher certification program,
he/she may be eligible to borrow under the
Federal
Stafford Loan program. Students in this category may borrow up
to $5,500 in subsidized
Federal Stafford
Loan and, as an independent student, up to $5,000 in
unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan (but no more than the student's
undergraduate/graduate
cost of attendance as determined by the Financial Aid Office). The
program must be required for initial elementary or secondary teacher
certification or re-certification in the state where the student
plans to teach, or the state in which the student is completing the
program. This exception is not intended to cover optional courses
that the student elects to take for professional recognition or
advancement. Nor does the exception cover courses that the school
recommends but that are not required for certification or
recertification. Students taking classes for
professional recognition or advancement ARE NOT eligible under this
criteria. The
undergraduate total
debt limits apply to borrowers in this category. If you qualify
under this criteria, your Academic Advisor or Department Chair must
complete the
Nondegree-seeking Student Certification form. The form will be
sent to students upon receipt of the
FAFSA and
admission to RU.
- If the student
is enrolled in prerequisite coursework required for entrance into a
degree program at Radford University, he/she may be eligible to
borrow under the
Federal Stafford
Loan program. Students under this exception are eligible to
borrow for only a one year period.
Students taking prerequisite courses for entrance into an
undergraduate program may borrow no more than $2,625 subsidized
Federal Stafford Loan and, if an independent student, no more than
$4,000 unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan (amounts can total no more
than the student's
undergraduate/graduate
cost of attendance. Students taking prerequisite courses for
entrance into a graduate degree program may borrow no more than
$5,500 subsidized Federal Stafford Loan and, if an independent
student, no more than $5,000 unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
(amounts can total no more than the student's
undergraduate/graduate
cost of attendance). The
undergraduate total
debt limits apply to borrowers in this category. If you qualify
under this criteria, your Academic Advisor or Department Chair must
complete the
Nondegree-seeking Student Certification form listing the classes
and the terms that the student is approved to take. The form will be
sent to students upon receipt of the
FAFSA and
admission to RU.
