Types of Financial Aid
Radford University offers a variety of
aid programs to help students meet the cost of attending the
institution. Often, a student's needs are met through a combination of
programs known as a financial aid package. Such a package can include
grants or scholarships, loans and work-study jobs on campus.
Grants are awarded on the basis of
financial need and do not require repayment. Eligibility is determined
by need.
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive
basis and do not require repayment. Awards are based on such criteria as
academic ability, achievement and promise. Financial need also is
required for many, but not for all, scholarships.
Loans are often part of a financial aid
package and provide students with the chance to defer the cost of their
education. Interest rates on the loans vary, ranging from a fixed rate
of three percent to a fixed rate of approximately 6 percent.
Payment usually is deferred until after you complete your education or
leave school. Not all loan programs require that financial need be
demonstrated.
Work study programs offer eligible
students opportunities to earn money to help pay living and education
expenses while, at the same time, giving students a chance to gain work
experience. The work-study jobs are in offices and departments on
campus, and students can usually work in an area related to their course
of study or interest.
