LIMITS ON HOURS WORKED

There are currently two levels of employment for students in the Work-Study and Work-Scholarship programs. The level of work the students are awarded depends upon the student's financial need and the make-up of their financial package.

The two levels of work for an academic semester and the amount of the award for that level are as follows:

12 hours/week or 180 hours/ each semester

6 hours/week or 90 hours/ each semester

These work levels and the amount of the awards are determined annually and are subject to change each year based on the funding received for the work programs and the departmental requests for student workers.

The amount of the work awarded is stated on each student workers' Work Acceptance Agreement  (see appendix B). Students must not work over the hours stated on their Work Acceptance Form. However, students may request to work less than the hours stated on the form because of academic, health, or personal reasons. The supervisor has the final word on reduction of students' hours except in the case where it is hours due to an overaward of financial aid. In this case, the Assistant Director will contact the supervisor and take the necessary steps to assure adequate work coverage in the department.

It is the responsibility of the supervisor and the students to share the responsibility of monitoring the hours worked to assure that the amount of the award is not exceeded. This can be accomplished by keeping an accurate record of the hours students work for the academic year. The Assistant Director of Financial Aid will also mail a cumulative report after each pay period to the supervisor listing the hours that each student worker has worked that payperiod.
