TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT
Termination of student employment may occur for several reasons. Students may resign, a supervisor may recommend termination for certain causes, and the financial aid office may terminate employment when a student has reached the maximum number of hours that the student could work.
A student may decide to resign from a job at any time the student feels it necessary to do so in the interest of academics, or another good cause. When students discuss resignation with the supervisors, the supervisor sends a completed "Worker Resignation/Termination Request" form (see appendix F) with the students' social security numbers. The supervisor sends students to the financial aid office if the students have financial problems associated with the termination of employment.
If a supervisor feels a student has not performed the job as required, has been excessively absent, or is not an acceptable employee for other causes, the supervisor may request termination of a student's employment. Supervisors should recommend termination only after talking with the student and warned the student of termination if the student did not improve. The supervisor should also refer the student to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid to discuss any problems the student may have concerning work.
Supervisors should document any discussions in the event that termination does become necessary. To terminate employment, the supervisor must send a "Student Worker Resignation/Termination Request" form (see Appendix F) to the Financial Aid Office stating the reason for termination. Supervisors must discuss the request for termination with the students involved. At the time of filing the "Student Worker Resignation/Termination Request", supervisors must also complete a "Student Worker Evaluation" and mail both to the Financial Aid Office (see appendix H).
